Porous materials with two populations of voids under internal pressure: II. Growth and coalescence of voids
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study is devoted to the mechanical behavior of polycrystalline materials with two populations of voids, small spherical voids located inside the grains and larger spheroidal voids located at the grain boundaries. In part I of the work, instantaneous effective stress-strain relations were derived for fixed microstructure. In this second part, the evolution of the microstructure is addressed. Differential equations governing the evolution of the microstructural parameters in terms of the applied loading are derived and their integration in time is discussed. Void growth results in a global softening of the stress-strain response of the material. A simple model for the prediction of void coalescence is proposed which can serve to predict the overall ductility of polycrystalline porous materials under the combined action of thermal dilatation and internal pressure in the voids.

The present article deals with the study of propagation of plane waves in isotropic generalized thermoelastic diffusion with voids under initial stress. A multi-scale approach is devoted to the analysis of hygro-elastic internal stresses in porous composite materials. Voids in composite materials are known to cause a significant reduction of mechanical properties. Moreover, in a humid environment they also affect the moisture absorption and the induced internal stresses. In this work, a self-consistent approach is used to estimate internal stre...

متن کاملA yield criterion for porous single crystals based on limit analysis
The ductile fracture of crystalline materials is a classical subject in mechanics of materials which still presents important challenges. It is driven by the process of growth and coalescence of voids and thus calls for constitutive models of the plastic response of porous crystalline materials. In this context, the consideration of the anisotropy, related to the single crystal response and the...
متن کاملExact Results in Linear Thermomechanics of Uid-saturated Porous Media
Exact results are derived relating the various bulk moduli (frame, unjacketed, and pore) and heat capacity of inhomogeneous uid-saturated porous media to the pertinent thermal expansion coe cients and component moduli when only two porous solid constituents are present. The porous solids need not be space lling or in perfect welded contact, so these results apply to materials containing some vo...
